How to read NBA Las Vegas Money Line Odds

All you need to do is pick is the winner!

If you’re placing NBA money line wagers then you’re rooting for one team to grab a straight-up win. The betting term Against the Spread (ATS) doesn't matter for these types of bets since the point-spread doesn’t come into play.

Similar to our Spread and 1st Half Odds, every matchup is listed in order of Rotation and those numbers are preceded by the Date and Time of the NBA game.

Every game has a Favorite and Underdog associated with the Money Line Odds and the plus (+) and minus (-) symbols are used to differentiate the teams. For NBA money line odds, it’s a simple math formula that’s based on $100 wagers.

NBA isn’t as popular as NFL betting, but it is more popular than the NHL and MLB. Because if its popularity, NBA lines are fairly efficient. One of the best ways to find an edge against US sportsbooks is by using our NBA odds page, which shows you the best lines for every NBA bet.

Rockets Clippers Game

Toronto -400 (Bet $100 to win $25)
San Antonio +300 (Bet $100 to win $300)

In the above example, Toronto is the favorite (-) while San Antonio is the underdog. If a bettor wanted to back Toronto, who is expected to win, they would only win $25 on a $100 wager since they are minus -400. Some books will provide an extra option to view their betting odds in Fraction format and Toronto would be a 1/4 favorite in this matchup. If you prefer Decimal format, which is very common overseas, Toronto would be 1.25 on the betting board.

Since Toronto is the favorite, San Antonio is the underdog and bettors would receive a positive return greater than their initial stake. In this example, a $100 winning wager on San Antonio would net $400 and that includes your $300 win and $100 stake. The fractional odds for this example would be San Antonio at 3/1 and the Decimal conversion would read 4.0.

How to Bet NBA Money Line Odds

A majority of NBA games involve point-spreads of single-digits, while games that see a favorite of 10 points or more is not usually the norm, although it happens.

The VegasInsider.com Parlay Calculator is a great tool to see what kind of return you can create while avoiding the pitfalls of risk.

In the NBA playoffs, there is no single-elimination rounds. Each round is a best-of-seven series with the first team to four wins advancing to the next round.

Picking a straight up winner seems easy and if you don’t want to lay the points, then betting money line wagers is for you. Underdog winners aren't as easy to find in the playoffs as the team with the higher seed usually advances, but straight up 'dogs sometimes come through in the postseason.

The 70th NBA All-Star Game will take place tonight in Atlanta, and the coronavirus pandemic has already made sure it is one unlike any other we’ve seen before.

Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons have been ruled out of tonight’s game due to contact tracing. But still, the game is going to happen and our friends at BetMGM are taking your bets. We’re giving you all the information we can from them so you can make your best wagers possible on tonight’s exhibition with the league’s biggest stars.

Advice and prediction

When you look at the names, scoring, shooting, and passing, Team LeBron is going to be incredibly difficult to beat. LeBron James, Steph Curry, Luka Doncic, Nikola Jokic and Giannis Antetokounpmo in the starting lineup followed by Damian Lillard off the bench?

But the thing about the All-Star games that is easy to forget is how amazing the other team is, too. Kevin Durant isn’t playing for Team Durant, which is a major loss for that side. Still, they have James Harden and he’s been maybe the best player in the league over the past month.

We also have to consider the other aspect of the All-Star Game that makes it different from any other NBA betting situation: the Elam Ending. After the third quarter, they will add 24 points, in honor of Kobe Bryant, to the leading team’s score to determine the target score.

By introducing a pick-up game element where you play to a score, you will see a lot more tough defense in the 4th quarter. That’s what we saw last season and it makes me believe even if one of the teams gets out to a 20 or even 30-point lead, the different ending will result in a competitive game.

But Embiid showed last season during the ASG that he wasn’t afraid to take big shots and while Harden and Irving are great in that spot, but not having Durant on both ends, in addition to not having Embiid during such a high-level game, is going to be too much to handle.

If all things were equal as far as the stars, I would take the points and lean on Team Durant. But something tells me Team LeBron is going to want to hit the target score and get on the first flight out of Atlanta. Also, take the under.
